Texas

So, it's been a while. I know. I've been sick for about a month, but I went to Texas from May 16th-May 21st. I got in to Houston very early on the morning of the 17th, due to a delayed flight and from then on it was fairly non-stop. I spent Thursday exploring Houston with Travis. We had Indian food, did some shopping lazed around in a park and then met up with his parents for a dinner of lovely Greek food. Friday morning involved a quick trip to the storage container to view the hideous chair that he insists on bringing up here in person. I was right, it is hideous ( I think I merely need to mention 'burgundy leather'). Then we went to visit his grandparents before rushing off to San Antonio to see my family. We hung out at the house on Friday night and everyone watched basketball and I went out and got food for all with Travis and William who really enjoyed the candy aisle far too much. Then it was time for some rest before the Grandparents 60th anniversary on Saturday. Saw a lot of family that I don't see too often, some that didn't even recognize me. But my Grandma could barely contain herself when she hugged me, which felt good and sad all at the same time. I got to see a long lost super 8 film of their wedding that I didn't even know existed and lots of pictures of their lives, which were touching. That was all very nice, but then we went back to Mom's and prepared for an evening with the immediate family and my Aunt Eileen's family. Travis and I took William, Abby and my Dad out for ice cream at Amy's because nothing is better than mexican vanilla, dark chocolate and almonds in a waffle cone. After the sugar rush and Abby's adorable elation we headed over to Whole Foods to get all the makings of breakfast for dinner. Challah french toast, bacon, eggs, fruit salad...bliss. I cooked with the help of my Dad, William and Travis and everyone thouroughly enjoyed every last bit. Megan came over with her friend and the whole family played cards and it was a great time. After the card game Travis and I were playing with Abby and William until it was time for their family to go. Nothing is sadder than seeing the 4 year old Abby weeping at the thought of saying goodbye to Travis. He carried her out to the car and we said our goodbyes and 30 minutes later we get a phone call stating that she's still crying. I wish we could be around more often, but the plan is to go the beach in August and visit again. Sunday we drove back to Houston after breakfast with the Gueringer's at Pioneer Flour Mill and made it back just in time to shower and change before Wendy's wedding. Her wedding was pretty, but very short, like 20 minutes. But then we went and hung out with Howard, Mike and their girlfriends. I really like Howard's she's so sweet and outgoing, hooray Howard. The reception was an elaborate 8 course Chinese feast. There was so much food. Then we went home and sort of crashed at Travis' for as long as I could until I started feeling like crap again and just made it through the night until my morning flight to Seattle. Buses to the airport are wonderful, lingering illnesses are not.
